Avocado Toast Recipe

Few things say fresh, simple, and satisfying like a perfectly made slice of avocado toast. Whether you’re fueling up for the day or craving a quick, wholesome snack, this classic recipe is a go-to favorite—and for good reason. With just a few quality ingredients (including our farm-fresh San Diego avocados, of course), you can whip up a creamy, flavorful toast that’s endlessly customizable.

Here’s how to make the perfect avocado toast, with tips to elevate it from everyday to exceptional.

Ingredients:
  • 1 slice of thick-cut bread (sourdough or whole grain recommended)
  • ½ large ripe Hass avocado
  • Freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice (1-2 tsp, adjust to taste)
  • Kosher or flaky salt
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Extra virgin olive oil (optional drizzle)
  • Red chili flakes (optional, for spice)
Instructions:
  1. Toast the bread: Toast the bread until it’s golden brown and crisp.
  2. Prepare the avocado: Remove the pit from the avocado and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  3. Mash the avocado: Mash the avocado with a fork or potato masher. You can mash it until it’s smooth or leave some chunks for texture, depending on your preference.
  4. Season the avocado: Add the lemon or lime juice to the mashed avocado and mix. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Assemble the toast: Spread the mashed avocado evenly onto the toasted bread.
  6. Add toppings (optional): Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with red chili flakes, if desired. You can also add flaky salt for extra flavor and texture.
  7. Serve immediately: Enjoy your classic avocado toast!
Tips and Variations:
  • Choosing the avocado: Use ripe but not overly mushy Hass avocados. They should be soft to the touch but still firm.
  • Mashing technique: Mash the avocado separately in a bowl to achieve a creamy texture without damaging the toast.
  • Don’t forget the salt: Salt is crucial for bringing out the avocado’s flavor.
  • Add garlic: Rub a peeled garlic clove on the toast before adding the avocado or mix a little garlic powder into the avocado.
  • Fresh herbs: Add chopped fresh basil, cilantro, dill, or parsley for extra flavor.
  • Protein boost: Top with a fried, poached, or scrambled egg.
  • Other toppings: Experiment with toppings like everything bagel seasoning, quick-pickled onions or radishes, chopped tomatoes, or smoked salmon.

Enjoy your delicious and customizable avocado toast!
